Waking up in Paradise is a soul enriching experience, with gentle ocean breaks on the sand and swaying palm trees reminding us that appearances can be deceptive. Without regard to the wind velocity, the trees endure and reach for the azure sky.
Even awakening at 5am we were unable to secure a prme pool location as getting chairs with an umbrella to beat the intense sun is more like the Hunger Games than relaxing on vacation.
Today the Trade Winds are blowing and the darkened clouds intermittently blow by, dropping rain and then the sun reappears. As the sterotypical Hawaiian music plays in the background, it is almost easy to imagine the Hawaii of Mitchener’s docu-historical novel without the 700+ pages of reading.
